Terms of Service

Last updated: October 5, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using Finthian (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms") and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. If you act for another person or a household, you confirm that you have authority to do so where applicable.

2. Description of Service

Finthian is a goal-oriented financial planning tool. You can enter income, expenses, debts, savings, transactions, and goals to receive calculations, projections, summaries, and a financial roadmap. You can use the Service individually and, where you choose, in a household.

The Service does not connect to your bank accounts or move money on your behalf. It is not a substitute for professional financial, investment, tax, accounting, or legal advice, and no output is a guarantee of a financial outcome.

3. Eligibility and Account Registration

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. You agree to provide accurate registration information, maintain the security of your account, and promptly report suspected unauthorized access. Clerk handles authentication, including social sign-in when you choose it. You are responsible for activity under your account except to the extent caused by our breach of these Terms or applicable law.

4. Optional Payslip Extraction

Premium users may choose optional AI-assisted extraction to prefill a payslip form. Manual entry is always available. The feature processes extracted document text as described in our Privacy Policy and sends only a minimized and de-identified payroll payload to Anthropic as our service provider.

Automated extraction may be inaccurate, incomplete, unavailable, or unable to read a particular document. You must review all extracted values before saving them and correct any errors. Finthian is not responsible for decisions made from values you failed to review, except where liability cannot be excluded by law.

You may upload a document only if you have the right to process it and to provide its contents for this purpose. Do not upload another person's payslip or other confidential document unless you are authorized to do so. You remain responsible for complying with employment, confidentiality, privacy, and other obligations that apply to documents you provide.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Access or attempt to access another user's account, personal context, household, or data without authorization
  • Invite or add people to a household without their consent, or use household features to obtain financial data under false pretenses
  • Upload unlawful content or content you do not have the right to process
  • Probe, disrupt, overload, bypass, or interfere with the Service or its security controls
  • Scrape or use automated means to extract data except through an API we expressly provide
  • Reverse engineer the Service except to the extent applicable law expressly permits
  • Use the Service for fraud, abuse, unlawful activity, or infringement of another person's rights

6. Subscription and Billing

The Service may offer free and paid tiers. Paid subscriptions recur monthly or annually as selected at checkout and are processed by Stripe. You can view, change, or cancel a subscription through the Stripe Customer Portal in account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We do not provide prorated refunds except where required by law. We may change prices with at least 30 days' notice to affected active subscribers.

7. Household Features

Household features let users share selected financial information. Content placed in a household context is visible to household members. Personal-context data remains personal unless you take an action that shares or moves it. Invite only people with whom you intend to share household data. A household owner may remove members or disband a household; removed members lose access to shared household content but retain their personal data.

8. User Content and Data License

You retain ownership of financial data, documents, and other content you submit ("User Content"). You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to host, store, reproduce, process, transmit, and display User Content only as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, support, and improve the Service for you, including using contracted service providers as described in the Privacy Policy.

This license permits processing needed for features you request; it does not permit sale of your User Content or use of your financial data for advertising. Current commercial AI provider terms do not use API content to train provider models unless a customer opts into a separate program, and we do not opt your payslip payloads into model training.

9. Your Responsibilities

You are responsible for the accuracy of information you enter or approve, for reviewing calculations and generated insights, and for deciding whether they are appropriate for your circumstances. Keep independent records where needed. Seek qualified professional advice before making important financial, tax, investment, employment, or legal decisions.

10. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its software, design, branding, and content other than User Content, belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual-property law. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for personal or household financial planning in accordance with these Terms. You may not copy, sell, lease, distribute, or create derivative works from the Service without permission except as allowed by law.

11. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how we process personal data, including authentication, optional analytics, household sharing, billing, and optional payslip extraction. By using a feature, you instruct us to perform the processing reasonably necessary to provide it, subject to your choices and applicable law.

12. Availability, Changes, and Beta Features

The Service may change over time. We may add, modify, suspend, or discontinue features, including beta or AI-assisted features. Beta features may be less reliable and can change without notice. We will provide notice when required by law and will not use this section to avoid obligations for paid services already provided.

13. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you materially breach these Terms, fail to pay applicable fees, create security or legal risk, or misuse the Service. Where practicable and lawful, we will provide notice and an opportunity to address the issue. Data retention and deletion after termination are governed by the Privacy Policy.

14. Disclaimers

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR COMPLETELY SECURE. AUTOMATED EXTRACTION, CALCULATIONS, PROJECTIONS, AND INSIGHTS MAY CONTAIN ERRORS. NOTHING IN THE SERVICE IS PROFESSIONAL ADVICE OR A GUARANTEE OF A PARTICULAR RESULT.

15. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, FINTHIAN AND ITS OPERATORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR CLAIMS ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR (B) €100.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or other mandatory rights under Dutch or applicable consumer law.

16. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify us against third-party claims and reasonable costs arising from your unlawful misuse of the Service, violation of another person's rights, or processing of a document you had no right to process. This does not apply to the extent a claim results from our own breach, negligence, or unlawful conduct.

17. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live. Courts or dispute-resolution bodies with mandatory jurisdiction remain available. Any arbitration or forum clause will apply only where valid and enforceable for you.

18. Severability and Entire Agreement

If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect and the invalid provision will be interpreted or replaced as closely as legally possible to its intended purpose. These Terms and the Privacy Policy form the agreement between you and us concerning the Service and supersede prior terms on the same subject.

19. Changes to Terms

We may publish revised Terms when the Service or legal requirements change. We will provide notice of material changes as required. A new version applies prospectively from its effective date; previously accepted versions remain immutable records of what was presented.
