Terms of Service

Last updated: August 11, 2026

This is a past version of our Terms of Service, kept for reference, and is no longer in effect. View the current Terms of Service.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or otherwise using Finthian (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service. If you are using Finthian on behalf of a household or other group of users, you confirm that you have the authority to agree to these Terms on their behalf where applicable.

2. Description of Service

Finthian is a goal-oriented financial planning tool. You manually enter your income, expenses, debts, savings, and goals, and Finthian generates a personalized financial roadmap and lets you track progress over time, individually and — optionally — as part of a household. Finthian does not connect to your bank accounts or move money on your behalf, and it is not a substitute for professional financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. Nothing in the Service should be construed as a personalized recommendation from a licensed financial advisor.

3. Eligibility & Account Registration

You must be at least 18 years old to create a Finthian account. You agree to provide accurate information when registering and to keep your account credentials secure. Account authentication is handled by our provider, Clerk; you are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account, and you must notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access.

4. Acceptable Use Policy

You agree not to:

  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service, another user's account, or our infrastructure
  • Scrape, crawl, or use automated means to extract data from the Service, other than through any API we explicitly provide
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive the source code of the Service, except to the extent applicable law expressly permits
  • Use the household-invitation feature to contact or add people without their consent, or to gain access to another person's financial data under false pretenses
  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that could disable, overburden, or impair it

5. Subscription & Billing

Finthian offers a free tier and a paid premium tier. Paid subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis (monthly or annually, as selected at checkout) and processed by Stripe. You can view, change, or cancel your subscription at any time through the Stripe Customer Portal, accessible from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; we do not provide prorated refunds for partial billing periods except where required by law. We may change subscription pricing with at least 30 days' notice to active subscribers before the change takes effect.

6. Household Feature Terms

Finthian lets you invite other users to form a household. By inviting someone to your household, you acknowledge that goals and financial details added within the household context will be visible to all household members, and you are responsible for only inviting people you intend to share that data with. The household owner may remove members or disband the household at any time; removed members lose access to shared household data but retain their own personal-context data.

7. Intellectual Property

Finthian, including its software, design, branding, and content (excluding data you submit), is owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service for your own personal or household financial planning, subject to these Terms. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Service without our prior written consent.

8. User Content & Data License

You retain ownership of the financial data and other content you submit to Finthian ("User Content"). You grant us a limited license to store, process, and display your User Content back to you (and, where applicable, to the household members you've shared it with) solely for the purpose of operating the Service. We do not sell User Content, and we do not use it to train third-party models.

9. Termination

You may stop using Finthian and delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, fail to pay applicable subscription fees, or if your account is inactive for an extended period, after reasonable notice where practicable. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends immediately; data retention and deletion following termination are governed by our Privacy Policy.

10. Disclaimers of Warranty

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT FOLLOWING THE FINANCIAL ROADMAP GENERATED BY THE SERVICE WILL ACHIEVE ANY PARTICULAR FINANCIAL OUTCOME. YOU USE THE SERVICE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

11. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, FINTHIAN AND ITS OPERATORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) €100. NOTHING IN THESE TERMS EXCLUDES OR LIMITS LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE EXCLUDED OR LIMITED UNDER DUTCH LAW, INCLUDING LIABILITY FOR DEATH, PERSONAL INJURY, OR FRAUD.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Finthian and its operators harmless from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Service or your violation of these Terms, except to the extent caused by our own breach or negligence.

13. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be finally settled by binding arbitration administered by the Netherlands Arbitration Institute (NAI) in accordance with its rules then in effect, seated in the Netherlands, conducted in English. You and Finthian each waive the right to a jury trial and the right to participate in a class, collective, or representative action. Either party may bring an individual claim in small-claims court where permitted, as an exception to this arbitration agreement.

14. Severability & Entire Agreement

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect, and the unenforceable provision will be replaced with an enforceable one that most closely reflects its original intent. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Finthian regarding the Service, and supersede any prior agreements on the subject.

15. Changes to Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated through the Service or by email where practicable. Continuing to use Finthian after a change becomes effective means you accept the revised Terms.
